Just like you probably need a shower every day, your hearing aids also need to be cleaned and dried daily.

And while you should have your audiologist do a professional deep cleaning at least twice a year, here are the steps to keep your hearing aids clean at home each day.

Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning Hearing Aids

Here is our helpful guide to help you take the best care of your hearing devices.

  1. Gather your hearing aid cleaning tools. A hearing aid cleaning brush, a wax pick, and a soft, dry cloth are key.
  2. Clean the microphone ports. Use the brush to gently sweep away any dirt and debris from the microphone openings. Be sure to hold the hearing aid facing down so debris can fall out not further in.
  3. Remove earwax with the wax pick. Sometimes earwax can be hard to remove, so use the wax pick to remove wax and debris from both devices.
  4. Clean the domes or earmold. Whether you have a custom earmold or not, be sure to clean the tip. Use an alcohol wipe to wipe them down, or a lightly damp paper towel (without getting your hearing aid wet), then use a soft cloth to dry the tip
  5. Wipe down your hearing aid gently. Finally, use the soft, dry cloth to wipe down the entire device to remove any sweat or oil.
